As part of its mandate, UNBS through its testing department carries out sampling and analysis of both locally and internationally manufactured products on the Ugandan market to assess their conformity to set standards and protect the public and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products. As an analyst, my responsibility in support of this mandate was to: • Provide an environment necessary to analyze samples accurately, quickly and safely through proper planning • Prepare sampling plans and carry out inspections • Spend sometime on the bench everyday carrying out analysis on various products • Evaluate analytical information before submitting it to higher authorities for approval • Ensure the use of safety procedures, maintenance of good housekeeping practices for efficient functioning of the laboratory • Initiate and/or recommend corrective action to improve quality control systems, safety and environmental conditions of the laboratory to conform to the authorized policies and procedures, and with sound laboratory practice

As part of my daily contribution towards achieving this mission, I was responsible for: • Undertaking planning and operation of the Quality Assurance programs of the Company • Carrying out routine inspections for quality conformity of raw materials, intermediates and final products • Preparation of regular laboratory reports and updates on inspection activities and programs • Implementation of HACCP and Food Safety Management Systems such as good manufacturing practices and good laboratory practices • Evaluation of process lines after cleaning and sanitation activities • Production process monitoring and control as per requirements • Laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance • Shift safety representative • Monitoring and control of water and wastewater treatment processes to ensure that water of acceptable quality is released for beverage production and to the environment respectively
