The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Science (PAUWES) was created in 2014 by the African Union Commission, in the framework of the Pan African University (PAU) hosted by Abou Bakr Belkaïd University of Tlemcen. The institute offers four world-class graduate programmes in line with the developmental needs of Africa: a Master of Science (MSc) in Water and a MSc of Science in Energy, with tracks available in both engineering and policy. The Master Programme in Energy Policy is geared towards raising policy experts to ensure sustainable policies towards ending the energy poverty in Africa. The programme have important courses like Afrcan Energy Resources and Scenarios, Renewable Energy Policy & Planning, Energy Economics Finance & Management and Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management.

The Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law (CPEEL), University of Ibadan, was established in July 2011 as a John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation-funded Centre of Excellence with the main goal of training highly skilled personnel and conducting research on energy. The institute aims to develop the human capacity needed to formulate and implement energy policies and regulations to manage effectively the natural resources of Nigeria and Africa and to provide a platform for energy professionals, institutions and the general public to meet. The platform is to bring together consumer groups, the media and the civil society organizations through outreach activities and training programmes such that energy policies and regulations can be better scrutinized by an informed public and stakeholders. The Master of Science degree in Energy Studies have courses like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Energy Technology & Processes, Energy Policy and Regulation, Petroleum Economics, Electricity Economics and Natural gas Economics

Nnamdi Azikiwe University was established in 1991 with a mission of using teaching, research, and public service to solve social problems. The school through its various method of teaching orients the students to use their education in solving practical problems confronting them in the Nigerian society and beyond. For the successful completion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, courses like; Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomic, Development Economics, Petroleum Economics, Economic Planning, Money and Banking and Statistics were taught to students.
